Another useful task you should be able to perform on your server is finding files, and find is the most powerful command to use for that. The find command helps you find files based upon any property a file can have. For starters, you can find files by their names; the access, creation, or modification date; the user who created them; or the permissions set on the file. If you want to find all files whose name begins with hosts, use find / -name "hosts*". I recommend always putting the string that refers to the file you are looking for between quotes because doing so ensures that find knows where the argument starts and where it stops.

As in Windows, you can right-click each file in the file browser window to see a context menu with options to rename the file, delete it, open it with particular applications, and so on. The Properties option on the context menu lets you view information about the file and alter certain aspects of it, such as its access permissions (we discuss file permissions in 21). After tuning configuration files, you should make sure they work. The first thing you need to do is to run the apache2ctl command. This helps you test your configuration. To do this, run apache2ctl configtest. You ll be told if everything is okay or not.
