For example, the following command can be used to do this: htpasswd -c /etc/apache2/htpasswd linda Next, the command prompts you to enter this user s password twice, and it then creates an entry in the file you specified Of course, a simple hashing algorithm is used to encrypt this password When you add more users to the Apache password file, you won t have to use the -c option again: the file exists and you can just add new users to it The htpasswd command also allows you to remove users from the password file; to do this, use it with the -D option For example, htpasswd -D /etc/apache2/htpasswd stacey removes user stacey from the file Just creating a user isn t enough, however, you have to configure Apache to prompt for a password when a user tries to access restricted data. Note A vCard is a virtual business card. Effectively, it s a small file that contains personal information. vCards can also contain pictures and audio clips. They re understood by practically all business-level e-mail programs, including Microsoft Outlook and Apple OS X s Mail program. Figure 11-4. Give the list a name in the relevant box, and simply click and drag contacts from the main program pane onto the bottom of the Contact List Editor pane. This will automatically add their names and e-mail addresses. Alternatively, you can type their e-mail addresses manually into the field under the Members heading, and then click the Add button, which can be useful if the individual isn t in your contact list. By selecting the Hide Addresses When Sending Mail to This List check box, you can ensure that the e-mail addresses are added to the BCC field of a new message, so people on the list don t see the others on the list.
